About the event

This could be perfect for someone thinking about changing their career or finding work within retail or hospitality, or for anyone with an eye for fashion or design. Designed to provide an introduction to the topic of Visual Merchandising, the workshop will encourage you to think creatively and commercially about retail space, providing an insight into store window design and effective in-store displays. Suitable for all abilities and levels of experience, we welcome you to come along, have a go and have fun!

We will cover: 

History of Visual Merchandising

  • The origins of Visual Merchandising: A timeline showcasing examples of VM through the decades, influential figures in the 20th Century - who created the concept of displaying products as a sales tool?
  • Themes within window displays
  • Prime selling spaces in a retail store - and why VM is such a relevant skill in retail and hospitality today

Principles of Design in Visual Merchandising

  • Creatively merchandising products within retail and e-commerce
  • Identifying the 5 key principles of design
  • Using lighting and signage effectively in a retail environment

Beforehand:

Feel free to bring a drink to enjoy whilst you are training!

Afterwards:

You will receive a certificate in recognition of your attendance and successfully completing the sessions.  The certificate is endorsed by The Learning Shop, North Kent College and Bluewater.

Additional support and info will be provided, e.g. if you are looking at improving your CV or looking for work opportunities.
