Shaw Trust, who help and assist clients with conditions such as autism, referred Bill to us in February. After a discussion with a member of the recruitment team, we checked for suitable vacancies we had at Bluewater for him.
Servest are the cleaning company who are taking over the cleaning contract for the new Primark store opening in Bluewater in March. They were holding interviews at The Learning Shop that week and we were able to book Bill a slot to meet with them on Thursday 7th February.
We first met Bill on the day of the interview and we had a chat about how his autism affects him. Bill mentioned to us that he was unsure whether he should disclose his autism at the interview. He decided this was the best course of action, but let them know that when he is shown how to do a task and given clear instruction, he is able to do the job to the best of his ability. We briefly explained the sort of questions they might ask him at the interview and we discussed how he would travel to work, should he be successful.
The interview went extremely well and we are so pleased to hear that he has been offered a 16-18 hour cleaning contract with the possibility of this increasing to 20 hours in the future.
